Representative Payee Program

mercy cross center

Mercy Cross Center is a safe, welcoming day center dedicated to serving individuals experiencing homelessness along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Rooted in our Catholic faith and the call to serve Christ in those most in need (Matthew 25:35-40), Mercy Cross exists to be a place of refuge, dignity, and hope for our brothers and sisters facing housing instability and life on the streets.

More than just a place to rest, Mercy Cross Center provides essential services that help restore dignity, build stability, and foster long-term hope. Guests have access to showers, laundry facilities, hot meals, and the compassionate support of dedicated staff and volunteers who are committed to treating every person with respect and kindness.

Through our Loaves and Fishes Program, guests receive two nutritious meals each day, along with a to-go meal in the afternoon to help ensure they have food for later. This ministry reflects Christ’s call to feed the hungry and care for the whole person — body, mind, and spirit (Matthew 14:16).

Beyond meeting immediate needs, Mercy Cross Center provides access to on-site psychological and medical services, case management, and referrals to housing, healthcare, and employment resources. Our goal is to walk alongside each guest as they work toward stability, self-sufficiency, and improved well-being.

Guests are also invited to participate in opportunities that promote personal growth and community connection, including Bible study, computer and job skills classes, and group sessions that help build confidence, life skills, and supportive relationships. These opportunities reflect our belief that every person is created in the image of God and possesses unique gifts and potential (Genesis 1:27).

At Mercy Cross Center, we believe every person deserves compassion, respect, and the opportunity to thrive. As Scripture reminds us, “Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth” (1 John 3:18). Together, with our community partners, volunteers, and supporters, we walk alongside our guests — providing practical help, spiritual encouragement, and hope for a brighter future.
